The Honeycombs were formed in 1963 by two London hairdressers, Martin Murray and Honey Lantree. Honey, a phenomenal drummer and a woman, made her somewhat of a novelty.
They originally called themselves The Sheratons, but after recording their first single, Have I The Right?, with the famous/infamous Joe Meek (check out this short clip of Honey telling a Joe Meek story here), their record label renamed them The Honeycombs in honor of Honey and her job as hair stylist. The single was a hit, but the momentum didn’t last. The group parted ways in 1966/1967.
And now, soak in some awesomeness:
I hope the little girl at 2:54 became a drummer.
